Q&A: How can I tell if a college is “generous” to their students?

  1. Go to https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/
  2. Search the college you are interested to learn about.
  3. Go to the “Paying” tab on the left.
  4. Go to the “Financial Aid By the Numbers” tab at the top.

Here you can see many metrics regarding the school. An important one I look at is “Had full need met”. Some schools try to meet every student’s full need (the difference between the cost of attending the school and the student’s EFC), whether it be through scholarships, grants, work-study, or loans. So seeing a high percentage of students that “Had full need met” is a good thing!

Here is a list of colleges who claim to meet *every* student’s full need: https://collegesearch.collegeboard.org/filters?fnm=FNM-100
